Barenbrug have been part of New Zealand’s pastoral landscape for over 35 years, helping farmers grow the best pasture.

Undertaking innovative plant breeding and research, along with farm system thinking, they have created some of this country’s best cultivars, backed by the experience and expertise of their staff.

Since day one, Barenbrug have been linked into the Royal Barenbrug Group, a fourth generation family business, with unique access to global science, knowledge and plant genetics.

Cropmark Seeds

Cropmark Seeds is a New Zealand owned plant breeding and supply company involved in the development of a range of proven high performance forage grasses, clovers, brassicas, forage herbs and novel endophytes.

Cultivars developed by the company undergo thorough trialling before commercialisation to ensure they help drive on-farm productivity.

Germinal New Zealand

Germinal is a sixth-generation family business, focused on developing progressive, climate-smart forage products that will create a more sustainable farming industry.

With research stations based in Aberystwyth (Wales), Wiltshire (England) and Lincoln (NZ), Germinal Horizon is our absolute commitment to science for answers, and to ensure we continue to proactively seek new technologies that address the challenges of food production in the face of climate change.

Genetic Technologies NZ

Established in 1986, Genetic Technologies Ltd is 100% New Zealand family owned and managed agribusiness which represents Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. in New Zealand.

Pioneer is one of the world’s leading developers of advanced plant genetics, providing high-quality seeds and associated services to farmers in more than 90 countries.

Our product offering in New Zealand includes hybrid maize seed both for grain and silage, lucerne, forage sorghum, microbial inoculants and a maize seed treatment application service. All hybrid maize seed sold in New Zealand is grown and processed to world-class, ISO quality-assured standards at the company’s Gisborne based seed production operations.

Grasslanz Technology

Grasslanz Technology, a subsidiary of AgResearch, develops innovative crop, forage and microbial technologies offering enhanced utility and profitability to farmers.

Its Epichloë grass endophytes provide leading ryegrass and fescue protection from insects and abiotic stress with enhanced animal safety for the stock that graze them.

AR1 and AR37 in ryegrass and MaxP and MaxR in fescue enhances pasture persistence, production and animal health and are available in many cultivars listed by seed companies on the NFVT.

PGG Wrightson Seeds

PGG Wrightson Seeds is New Zealand’s largest seed company and has been helping farmers for over 150 years through the provision of proprietary grass and forage seeds that deliver high quality feed for improved performance and production. It also provides cereal seeds for both human and animal consumption.

Research and development strongly underpins the product portfolio and the company, in conjunction with its research partners, is one of New Zealand’s largest investors in research and development.

PGG Wrightson Seeds are world leaders in delivering innovations to customers. These include products like novel endophytes, Cleancrop™ Brassica System and Ecotain® environmental plantain.

Subsidiary Members

Agricom

Agricom researches, develops and markets a wide range of proprietary pasture and forage crop seeds to the agricultural industry; with their core business being investing in the research and development of forage options and in the advancement of endophyte technology to increase the profits returned back to farmers.

Agricom were the first to initiate grazing system trials to identify the critical link between using a product and using the right management systems to achieve the greatest return per hectare. Agricom also invests in an on-farm trial system to compare different forage cultivars under a wide range of environments around New Zealand.

Corson Maize

The Corson Maize hybrid range has been developed utilising global breeder relationships to enable Corson Maize to access a wide range of maize genetics that are suitable for New Zealand conditions.

Our Product Development team understand grower needs and are always looking for improved field reliability and yield performance. Extensive multi-year trialling and evaluation programmes are used to fully assess hybrids before market introduction.

We are committed to delivering high performing maize hybrids to New Zealand growers and will continue to work closely with international breeding partners, agronomists and growers to achieve this.

PBRA Members benefit from being part of a combined group that represents forage, cereal and endophyte developers on policies and legislation that impact on their businesses and farmers.

Members gain value from their participation in industry trial programmes with world-leading protocols.  Members also get value from industry promotion and public education, particularly creating awareness of topical issues.
